The Oldtime Baseball Game was proud to have Johnny Pesky and Lennie Merullo, two of the region's most beloved big-league veterans, back in uniform in 2008.

Lennie, who turned 91 last year, was making his eighth Oldtime Game appearance. The East Boston native played seven seasons with the Chicago Cubs in the 1940s, after which he carved out a reputation as one of baseball's greatest all-time scouts, handling the New England region for more than 50 years.

Johnny, who turned 90 in September, made his fifth appearance. He has been involved with the Red Sox for more than 60 years as player, coach, manager, broadcaster and goodwill ambassador.

These gentleman not only bring wisdom and experience to the Oldtime Baseball Game, but a youthful enthusiasm that betrays their years.
