Uniform & Team History
Founded in 1939, this legendary team is still active in the Puerto Rico winter league, now known as Liga de Béisbol Profesional Roberto Clemente. The league’s name honors the memory of Roberto Clemente, a native of Puerto Rico who played for Santurce and forged a Hall of Fame career with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Oldtime Game History
This uniform was donated by Peter Colford, a lifelong baseball fan who graduated from Bridgewater-Raynham High School in 1976 and later settled in Medford. He was a longtime Little League and Babe Ruth coach in his adopted city as well as coaching youth basketball.
“My father was fueled by a genuine passion for baseball and a deep commitment to the players’ growth and development,” said his son, John Colford. “He went above and beyond to create a positive and inspiring environment for their team.”
Peter died in 2016, but this uniform is a lasting tribute to his love of the game.
Mike Powers, a longtime coach in the Oldtime Baseball Game, began wearing this uniform in 2022, with plans to continue doing so in future editions of the game.
Powers was the varsity baseball coach at Somerville High from 2000 to 2010 and coached Somerville Alibrandis in the Yawkey League from 1997 to 2010. Like Peter Colford, Mike Powers settled in Medford, where he became president of Medford Youth Baseball.
