Uniform & Team History

The House of David was a barnstorming team that toured the country from the 1920’s to the 1950’s. House of David players were known for their long beards. Though they mostly were amateur players, future Hall of Famers Grover Cleveland Alexander and Satchel Paige had hitches with the House of David, as did Eddie Popowski, who would later be the third-base coach of the 1967 “Impossible Dream” Red Sox.

Oldtime Game History

In 2014, longtime Oldtime Baseball Game board member Bill Novelline determined that no throwback baseball game could be complete without a House of David uniform. So he went out and bought one and donated it to the game. The first to wear it was Babson College pitcher Nick Ahearn, who was so caught up in the moment he grew a beard just for the occasion. He also wore it in 2015.

Jordan Leandre, who made national headlines in 2007 when the then-seven-year-old cancer patient sang the national anthem at Fenway Park and then made an inspiring run around the bases, wore this uniform 2016-19. As a cancer-free teenager, Leandre played baseball at Dennis-Yarmouth High School.

Also worn by:

Joe Cacciatore, Bentley University (’22).
