Uniform & Team History

The Cubans were the first Havana entry into professional baseball in the United States, playing in the Florida International League. They were later upgraded to the Triple-A International League and renamed the Sugar Kings, adopting the slogan “Un paso mas, y llegamos!” (“One more step, and we arrive!”)

Oldtime Game History

This uniform was to have been added to our game in 2013 as a gift to Alex Lee, a former Oldtime Baseball Game player of Cuban extraction who was returning as a coach. But Lee wound up playing professional baseball in Austria, planning to wear the uniform in 2014. By then he was playing professionally in the Czech Republic. His baseball wandering eventually ended, and he returned to our game and wore it in 2017 and ’18. Lee wore our 1940s New York Cubans uniform in 2010, after devoting several months to growing a handlebar mustache just for the occasion.

Also worn by:

Larry Day, UConn (’14); Lucas Stalman, Boston College (’19); Manny Dias, Boston Havoc (’22).
