Uniform & Team History
The Cubans were the first Havana entry into professional baseball in the United States, playing in the Florida International League. They were later upgraded to the Triple-A International League and renamed the Sugar Kings, adopting the slogan “Un paso mas, y llegamos!” (“One more step, and we arrive!”)
Oldtime Game History
This uniform was to have been added to our game in 2013 as a gift to Alex Lee, a former Oldtime Baseball Game player of Cuban extraction who was returning as a coach. But Lee wound up playing professional baseball in Austria, planning to wear the uniform in 2014. By then he was playing professionally in the Czech Republic. He eventually returned to our game and wore it in 2017. Alex is best known for having worn our 1940s New York Cubans uniform in 2010 — and for devoting several months to growing a handlebar mustache just for the occasion.
