Two Oldtime Baseball Game Alumnus selected in 2009 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft
The Oldtime Baseball Game Committee would like to congratulate two of our alumni, who were selected in the 2009 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft.
Nate Freiman - Wellesley, MA
Nate attended Duke University. Even though he pitched his first year in the Oldtime Baseball Game, he ended up playing First Base for the Blue Devils. Nate stand at 6’8” and wore the 1950 Philadelphia Phillies Uniform, bearing the number 36 of Robin Roberts.
Nate was drafted in the 8th round with the 234th selection overall by the San Diego Padres. At 6’8” 220 lbs, he will continue his career as a First Baseman. The following is form The Padre’s website:
Round 8, Nathan Freiman, INF, Duke University: A 6-8 first baseman, Freiman hit 19 home runs during his senior season with the Blue Devils. Read more.
Matt Nuzzo – Everett, MA
Matt attended Brown University. While Matt was a 2 sport star at Everett High School, in both Football and Baseball, he focused on Baseball while at Brown. He played Short Stop for the Bears. Matt has been one of only 2 players to don the 1940 Cienfuegos Elefantes Uniform.
Matt was drafted in the 24th round with the 730th selection overall by the Toronto Blue Jays. At 6’ 0” 205 lbs, Matt will certainly continue his career as a Short Stop. The following is from The Blue Jays website:
Round 24 (730th) -- Matt Nuzzo, SS, Brown University: The 6-foot, 204-lb former high school football player has been a solid run producer for Brown, leading the team in RBIs and total bases and finishing second in runs scored over the past two seasons.
