Uniform & Team History

Carl Yastrzemski made his major-league debut in 1961 and played his entire career — 23 seasons — with the Red Sox. Inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1989, he remains one of the greatest all-around players in Red Sox history. In 1967 he won the Triple Crown and was named MVP in leading the “Impossible Dream” Red Sox to the American League pennant.

Oldtime Game History

Donated by the Red Sox in 2016, it was first worn by Aidan Freeburg of Worcester Polytechnic Institute. A fixture at the Oldtime Baseball Game, Freeburg also wore the uniform 2017-19 and 2021-22. He was to have worn it in 2023 — and did so, during the pregame program — but that’s when Freeburg was announced as that year’s recipient of the Greg Montalbano Award, named in memory the former Red Sox prospect who participated in the Oldtime Baseball Game in 1997 and ’98. In accordance with tradition, Freeburg switched to our 1926 St. Louis Cardinals uniform, which was worn by Montalbano in 1998 and is worn by all Montalbano Award recipients.
